Potrero Chico 2:1 Multi-pitch Climbing

Six days exploring the most famous big wall sport climbing venue on earth and soak in some sun and tacos while you’re at it.

Potrero Chico offers thousands of limestone sport climbs from one to fifteen pitches. Climbers from around the world flock to EPC in winter months to enjoy the warm temps and world class routes. The climbing here almost feels like jungle mountaineering — clipping bolts next to palm trees, wandering incredible ridgelines, and breathtaking views of the sun spilling over the valley below.

Over 6 days..

This 6 day guided experience will get you very very high — and teach you all you need to do so safely, no matter where you’re at on your climbing journey at the moment.

The days will be spent on the fantastic multi-pitch limestone rock climbs of Potrero. Because these trips are at a 2:1 ratio, we can be flexible to suit your rock climbing goals and abilities.

In the evenings, rest back in camp and enjoy delicious home-cooked meals and margaritas at the restaurants in town.

MOMENT BY MOMENT, DAY BY DAY

DAY 1

DAY 1

THE ADVENTURE BEGINS!

We’ll meet in the evening of Day 1 for a shared dinner and an orientation where we can get to know each other and share our goals for the following five days. You’ll most likely want to fly into Monterey Airport and then get a taxi to Potrero Chico. Because most of the climbing is easily in walking distance of the accommodations, a rental car isn’t necessary.

DAY 2 - 5

DAY 2 - 5

OVER THE NEXT FIVE DAYS WE’LL CLIMB WHATEVER OUR HEARTS DESIRE.

The days will largely be customized to fit your goals and needs and meet you and your partner where you’re at in your climbing experience.

Days could see us trying hard on single pitch routes, spending all day from the very early hours climbing a 15 pitch, 2,000 ft sport route, teaching you how to lead or multi-pitch, or practicing rock rescue… the time is ours.

DAY 6

DAY 6

OUR FINAL DAY!

Maybe we’ll play it easy, maybe we’ll go big… either way we’ll share a final celebratory dinner before parting ways.

Is This For You?

This trip is for anyone excited to escape the winter and climb beautiful long sport routes with a trained and accomplished rock guides. If you want top-level guiding and instruction and expert risk management… join us in Potrero.

If signing up as a duo… any experience level is great! We can customize the trip to suit all skill levels.

If signing up as an individual, you should be an intermediate climber (familiar with basic climbing technical systems and able to climb 5.9)

WHERE WE SLEEP

They thought I was a Surrealist, but I wasn’t. I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality.
— Frida Kahlo

La Posada

  • On this trip we’ll be staying at La Posada. It’s a classic climber hang with a lovely scene, lots of friendly folks from around the world, and a very chic restaurant / cafe. The climbing is just a few minutes walk away — you can see it from your bed — and there’s a nice pool that you usually won’t be interested in cause it’s often a bit chilly out. There’s laundry, somewhat reliable hot water and internet, and usually a few cute dogs running around.

  • This trip can be as epic or relaxed as you like. Wanna climb a 15 pitch 5.10 sport route? Great! Want to take a day to read at the pool? Perfect! We have a lot of wiggle room to create perfect days. Potrero has climbing for everyone. That being said, being confident climbing 5.9 opens up a huge amount of terrain. Under the 5.9 level you will be mostly climbing single pitch routes.

  • We limit all our trips to 8 clients. We will have a 2:1 ratio for all multi-pitch climbing.

  • Tacos and margaritas. And other foods. But mostly tacos. They’re just so good. We’ll have shared dinners at any number of the local restaurants in the evenings so you can order what you like. In the mornings we’ll have breakfast at the La Posada cafe — a great and classic breakfast buffet.

  • You’ll want to book your flight to Monterrey International Airport arriving either morning of Day 1 of the trip or the day prior. From the Monterey airport its a $50 - 80 1 hr cab ride to get to La Posada.

You could book a flight out for the night of our last day or choose to hang around a little longer.

  • We have people come on our trips by themselves all the time! Coming alone gives you a cool opportunity to meet new folks and make new friends. Please ask us about the single supplement rate.

  • Indigo Alpine Guide trips are most often run by the owner Jack Bynum and his closest and most trusted friends. All the people who work for IAG have over a decade of experience guiding trips in the most remote places on earth, have wilderness medical training and advanced guiding certifications.

  • You may cancel up to 120 days before the scheduled travel date and receive a full refund minus a $300 per-person service fee. If you cancel between 120 and 60 days of travel, there is a 50% cancellation fee. Within 60 days of travel, there is a 100% cancellation fee. We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance.

  • We always encourage folks to purchase trip cancelation insurance in addition to the mandatory medical evacuation insurance. We require that you have at least $200,000 in medical evacuation insurance. Your insurance policy should cover hazardous sports and we recommend that your policy cover search and rescue. Since we cannot confirm each client’s policy individually, it is your responsibility to make sure your policy will cover you while you participate in your activities of choice on the expedition.

For US citizens, we recommend Global Rescue. You will have a choice of purchasing it with or without the cancellation coverage–so make sure to select the one that gives you the coverage that you need. Other commonly used companies include World Nomads and Squaremouth.

You are welcome to seek out other insurance options, as these are only recommendations. When selecting a policy, please make sure they insure all the activities you’ll be participating in (many don’t include roped climbing, skiing, mountaineering, etc).
