I have travelled the entire world, every continent, with dozens of high-end guide services and this was hands down the best trip of my life. The place worked it’s way into my soul. And Jack was the best guide i’ve ever had! It was hard, but so so worth it.

It’s impossible to explain how vast the place is. Every square mile would be it’s own national park if it were in the lower 48! I’m so grateful I got the chance to go here and so glad I chose IAG to go with.”

My partner and I spent seven days trekking in the Gates of the Arctic in the Brooks Mountain Range of northern Alaska with Jack, the owner of Indigo Alpine Guides. His knowledge, skills, care and safety are beyond exceptional. Our trip was rugged, beautiful, challenging and epic all thanks to Jack.

Jack had me cracking up the entire time! Alaska is no joke. If you’re willing to put in the effort it’s absolutely worth it. And if you go you might as well laugh the entire time while you’re at it. I can’t recommend Indigo Alpine Guides or Gates of the Arctic highly enough.”

I did two trips with Indigo Alpine and both were amazing. First was a backpacking trip in the Talkeetnas in Alaska. The trip was amazing, with epic scenery and we explored the area for nearly a week and never saw another person! Our guide, Ben, was a phenomenal guide, keeping us laughing and ensuring we were safe, happy, and dry in the wet Alaskan weather... An incredible trip in a magical place. We saw the Alaska range and the Wrangells, picked wild blueberries for pancakes in the morning, caught the first snows of the season, and saw mountain goats and caribou in every valley. It was a full backcountry experience—rugged, off trail hiking on tough Alaskan terrain, and Ben was encouraging, joyful, knowledgeable, and incredibly funny (even the dad jokes). He was so committed to our experience and was just excellent through and through.

Jack Bynum guided me - backpacking- across 47 miles of the interior of Gates of the Arctic National Park and some of the most stunning landscape I have ever seen— and I have traveled around the world! Jack was an incredibly experienced wilderness guide. I was impressed by his knowledge of the Alaskan “outback” and his amazing, wonderful sense of humor! I’m a licensed guide back here, in New York and I learned a few things from Jack! It was one of the most memorable outdoor backpacking trips I have ever taken and you can not go wrong choosing Jack to guide you. His attention to safety, and experience was obvious and that put me at ease in such a wild area, which allowed me to enjoy every step of this trip. Taking the time to talk to me, Jack knew exactly what I wanted in this trip and he delivered! I will be planning another trip with Jack and I think that says it all! Highly recommend this Adventure guide! Happy Hiking!

★★★★★
I honestly still tear up a bit remembering how beautiful it was out there. Those mountains are so massive. Denali is the real deal. I’d backpacked a lot before in the lower 48, but never in mountains like that! I’m glad I had a guide! Jack is hilarious and incredible at what he does.”

★★★★★
I’ve hired a lot of guides over the last two decades and by far Jack is the best. My time in Alaska with him was phenomenal. He’s funny, humble, thoughtful and kept us safe on our remote trip. The views of Denali totally rocked my world. From the very flight in I was dumbfounded.”

★★★★★
I recently had the pleasure of doing a three-day backpacking trip with Jack up to Three Fingers Lookout. Although I normally backpack solo, the exposure and technical parts of the trek near the top drove me to find a guide - I’m so glad I did, and I’m really grateful to have connected with Jack.

To begin, Jack’s experience and expertise gave me confidence as we navigated scree, ridge crossings, a snowfield, and some class 4 terrain with several thousand feet of vertical exposure. I was nervous during parts of the trip and definitely would’ve turned back had I been by myself. Jack helped me push beyond my comfort zone while enjoying the challenge of it.

Second, Jack tailored the trip to my needs and comfort level. He checked in with me throughout the trek to ensure our pace was reasonable. And at a couple of points on the way up, he reminded me that the goal isn’t to get to the top, but simply to enjoy the experience.

Finally, Jack is just a great person - he’s kind, generous, personable, and funny. Our conversations were as much a highlight of the trip as the incredible scenery around us.

I highly recommend Jack to anyone considering an alpine adventure, and I look forward to the possibility of doing more trips with him in the future!

No words. Wow. I will remember this trip for the rest of my life. The food and the company were great. The views of the mountains and flying in low over the glacier was soooo cool. Just being out there I was always in awe.”

With anti-LGBTQ bills on the rise, it felt particularly important to connect with queer community on this trip. We reminded each other how strong and resilient we all are and continuously uplifted each other. It’s beautiful to return to the ‘real world’ with a new sense of self-love and confidence after such a physically and mentally challenging week in the outdoors surrounded by immense beauty.

If I could give Jack six stars I would. He provided exactly the right mixture of adventure and fun to encourage five complete strangers to hike 36 miles to climb to the top of a 10,541 foot volcano for no good reason — thus allowing them to experience four days of laughter, and the dubious joys of blisters and blue bags. We will all return with stories that will likely be exaggerated for years to come. If you’re looking for a guide that will keep your spirits high while you challenge yourself mentally and physically... Jack’s your guide!

★★★★★
For an experience like this, I look for a guide who prioritizes safety and education, but also fun. Jack embodies all of that. For your trip, the guide is your coach, mentor, and teacher, and you’re also spending a LOT of time together so a good fit makes a big impact on your enjoyment.
Jack was patient with addressing our numerous (and ridiculous) questions, explained concepts multiple times if we needed, and was always encouraging. Our Baker team was made up of queer folks, and the special bond we all developed (in large part because of his involvement) is something I’ll always cherish.
Pro tip: This guy is incredibly humble, but inspire yourself and ask him about his amazing life accomplishments!

Jack is a superstar. 12/10 would recommend. As a queer/trans person, I am often super nervous about going to new locations with new people — but he made sure that I was fully seen as a human.

Also, not only is Jack a total badass pro and really knowledgable outdoors person, but he’s also totally willing to meet people where they’re at [in their skills development].

I don’t quite know how I can accurately and concisely demonstrate my appreciation for Jack. For starters, I can conclude that Jack far exceeded my expectations for a guide. He was patient, funny, and extremely knowledgable. I had a lot of questions (some being very dumb), and he answered them thoroughly. I spent three days with Jack and each day seemed to top the previous day. I really appreciated how adaptive Jack was to my needs and wants. We came into the 3 day seminar with a plan but adjusted it as we went to meet my needs and abilities. Jack was laidback but still detail oriented and expressed seriousness and safety in the areas that needed to be. With all that said, I want to highlight the fact that because of Jack’s business, I was able to contact him directly, opposed to other guiding companies who have a more complex contact system to guides. I called Jack in early September and was able to express my goals in detail. Jack then took these details and created our 3 day itinerary. Once again, Jack is an incredible guide AND person, and I would do something again with him in a skinny minute. If you’re reading this and considering doing something with Indigo Alpine Guides, do it. Best decision I made.

This trip kicked my butt! But in the best way possible — if it wasn’t so hard I don’t think i’d still be thinking about it every day months later. The group was fantastic and my guide had me laughing through all the hard bits.

Traveling with Jack of Indigo Alpine Guides was an excellent experience. I could gush about his leadership, client intuition, excellent communication, superb food, trip pacing, sunny disposition and a myriad of other qualities but then I’d be gushing. We trusted Jack with our lives on a 150 plus mile kayak journey across Prince William Sound in Alaska and everything he said was true and as expected. I would go anywhere with Jack Bynum.

Jack is amazing! I would highly recommend a trip with him. I hadn’t done too much backcountry backpacking, and he led us every day with his entrepreneurial & positive spirit, patience, wonderful companionship...and great food! He kept me feeling safe, confident, and motivated during the challenging parts, and kept me learning and laughing during the lighter parts. This trip taught me so much and I would definitely go with him again. His expertise shines through on the trip itself, but he was also a great communicator and extremely helpful beforehand while planning & packing. He is a truly an expert in every way at what he does. THANK YOU JACK!

Jack and Indigo Alpine Guides are fantastic! We booked a 7 day backpacking trip in Alaska with them, and it was a great experience. All the logistics were seamless, and Jack’s professionalism was outstanding guiding us through the Alaska backcountry. He greatly assisted us with pre-trip planning: gear selection, etc. And he customized the route and food to our preferences. Extremely well done from start to finish.
